Biography

Juana Gallar, MD, PhD, Professor of Physiology, leads the Ocular Neurobiology Group at the Instituto de Neurociencias (a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence), where she was Deputy Director. She is interested in the neurophysiological basis of ocular pain and the pathophysiology of ocular somatosensory nerves in health and disease, combining basic science and clinical aspects. Her work, has contributed to obtain most of the available neurophysiological data about the functional types of ocular sensory receptors and their role in the genesis of sensations arising from the eye, as well as in the regulation of several ocular physiological functions.
