Biography

Dr. Mark S. Bolding is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, with secondary appointments in Biomedical Engineering, Neurobiology, and Vision Sciences. He is a McKnight Investigator through the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute and an Associate Scientist at the Civitan International Research Center.

Dr. Bolding directs the Civitan International Neuroimaging Laboratory (CINL) and co-directs the UAB Small Animal Imaging Facility. He also serves as Associate Director of the UAB Neuroengineering Ph.D. Program. His research spans MRI physics, small animal and human neuroimaging, non-invasive neuromodulation, focused ultrasound, and X-ray optogenetics.

A central focus of his work is using eye movements as non-invasive biomarkers to probe brain function, with applications in schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurological conditions. Dr. Bolding is a member of the UAB Alzheimer's Disease Center, Comprehensive Neuroscience Center, Epilepsy Center, and Vision Science Research Center.
